Healing Your Relationship with Yourself

Healing your relationship with yourself will emanate into all of your relationships.

At the core of all relationships is the most important relationship of all: the relationship to self. The more we know ourselves, give to ourselves and love ourselves, the more we can truly know and connect to others. If we can not give love, attention and caring to ourselves, how can we truly share these with others?

In order to heal our relationships with others, with god, or anything else we deem important, we need to nurture our relationship with our self. When we are filled with an abundance of self-affinity and self-esteem we see the world and others in it in a new light; one that supports us to create rewarding and fulfilling relationships.

Healing Your Relationship with Yourself

Here are four suggestions for how to heal and improve your relationship with yourself.

Share with yourself. What qualities do you enjoy in your relationships with others – connection, fun, attention, affection, love, sharing, recreation, playfulness? Do you experience these aspects in your relationship with yourself – can you have fun on your own, pay attention to your needs, give yourself loving gifts? Brainstorm ways you can share these aspects with yourself.

Be your own best friend. In what ways are you not your own best friend – do you berate yourself, ignore your needs, say yes to others and no to yourself? How would it feel to compliment, honor and nurture yourself? What would support you in healing your relationship to yourself? Set an intention to treat yourself like a best friend from this day forward.

Increase your self-esteem. How is your self-esteem – do you feel good about your strengths, gifts and talents? Do you accept your flaws and mistakes with compassion? What is one thing you could do for yourself that would raise your self-esteem? Commit to doing that this week.

Love yourself. Do you truly love yourself? Tune into the pure essence of love by closing your eyes, connecting with your heart, thinking of someone or something you love, and then focusing on the loving feeling within. Turn up the volume and let this energy flow throughout your whole body down to a cellular level. Do this on a daily basis as a way to increase your self-love.

As you pay attention to yourself and honor your needs, values, hopes and dreams, you will heal your relationship with yourself and this will have a positive impact on your relationship with others.
