Set your intention to increase self-love and watch it bubble forth.
When you make loving yourself a top priority, your self-affinity, self-esteem and self-worth increase dramatically. From this place it’s easy to speak your truth, set healthy boundaries, and honor your dreams. There’s no holding back on what you believe in. You take loving care of your body, mind and soul. You express your highest values and treat others with respect. Love emanates from your soul, embracing those around you with warmth, acceptance and appreciation.
This form of love is not common in most societies. It’s considered egocentric by some as though loving yourself leads to being greedy, selfish, and hedonistic. On the contrary, a lack of self-love leads people to live from a place of scarcity which can manifest as poverty and insecurity or swing to the opposite with an overindulgence in physical and material pleasures. True self-love is balanced and stems from a deeper heart and soul connection.
The first step to increase self-love is to set your intention. From there, all you need to do is remove the blocks to love and be in a loving state each day. This may not sound easy at first, but with patience and persistence, loving yourself will feel as natural as breathing.
Steps to Increase Self-Love
Set your intention. When you make a decision to head in a healthy direction and commit to taking action, serendipity follows. The Universe wants you to operate from the Source of love so when you choose this path, people and circumstances will appear in your life to support you in this endeavor. Use the power of intention to increase self-love. Say out loud, “I choose to love myself today,” and do this each day. Make this a top priority in your life. As you make decisions about what to wear, eat, speak and do, make sure it reflects your highest level of love.
Remove blocks to love. As Rumi said, “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” What blocks the love in your heart? Is it judgments about yourself and others, negative thinking habits, prejudice, expectations, perfectionism, childhood wounds, rejection from others? We can find a million reasons to not love ourselves but we only need one reason to increase self-love; it’s our birthright. Get into the habit of dropping judgment, ignoring negative thoughts, and laying aside resentments. Heal old wounds that cover up your natural source of love and let it shine through. You get to decide what to focus on and what to let go. Choose love above everything else and the blocks will melt away.
Be in a state of love. In reality, love isn’t a commodity or something we have to cultivate; it’s our essence. All we have to do is tune into it and turn up the volume. Think of someone or something you love dearly and unconditionally. Feel that glow of love in your heart and direct it towards yourself. Feel it expand to fill your whole body. Go through your day in this state of self-love and retune to it any time it drops in vibration. It’s yours to own, have and share in any way you choose.
