Move Into the Flow of Life

Move into the flow of life and experience bliss.

Does your life flow with ease, or do you feel like you’re going against the current? When you’re in the flow of life you’re connected to your natural rhythm and you move at a pace that’s just right for you. The timing of things works out perfectly and you feel energetic and productive, while being relaxed at the same time.

When you’re not in the flow you’re either in resistance or pushing too hard; things can slow down to a grind or speed up in a whirlwind. You might feel like a slug not getting anything done, or feel overwhelmed with too many things on the go. Your energy feels spent, your temper short, and getting through the day can feel like bushwhacking your way through a dense amazon jungle, without a machete. Continue reading

Practice Self-Acceptance When You Feel Unaccepted by Family

When you practice self-acceptance it doesn’t matter if you’re not accepted by family.

It would be wonderful if each and every one of us was fully accepted by our family for who we are, what we do, and what we believe in (even if they don’t agree). But unfortunately, many parents and siblings feel they have the right to judge, criticize and advise family members who stray from the path according to their world view.

It’s as though they fear that their world will crumble if the rest of the clan doesn’t act, think, and feel the way they do. Yet in reality, it is our uniqueness that makes us special and creates richness in the world. When family supports us to be our authentic selves, forgives us for our mistakes, and loves us unconditionally, we feel accepted. Continue reading

Communicating Effectively with Others

Communicating effectively with others can transform relationships.

Have you ever felt like no one was really listening to you – or at least not hearing and understanding you? And at other times have you wondered what other people are babbling on about? At times it feels as though we need a decoding book to decipher what is really meant by what is being said. And this is only the tip of the frustration.

Communication mishaps can cause mistakes, arguments, broken relationships and even wars. You’d think with our advanced technology and evolving consciousness we’d be able to communicate clearly and easily. Perhaps we’re just too busy to take the time to listen, or too fearful to speak our truth. Yet, when we communicate effectively, we enhance our relationships. Continue reading

How to Resolve Conflict with a Friend

The key to friendship is knowing how to resolve conflict.

Not many people go through life without having a dispute or experiencing conflict with family and friends. It’s natural given that we each have our own beliefs, life experiences, childhood wounds, and present-time perspectives. We’re not always going to see life through the same lens as our friends, and occasionally we may trigger each other, push each other’s hot buttons, and feel as though we’re at an impasse.

If you were raised with good conflict resolution skills then you’ll know how to navigate through the pitfalls of friendship in order to regain harmony. But if you’re like most people, you picked up your social skills by trial and error, modeling dysfunctional family members, trying to do the best you can with the tools you have. Continue reading

The Soul Purpose of Dysfunctional Families

There is a soul purpose for everything, including dysfunctional families.

I rarely meet someone who wasn’t raised in a family with some level of dysfunction. It might be moderate such as having a critical parent, it might be severe such as physical or sexual abuse, or it might be somewhere in between. But overall, I’ve heard that 95% of families are dysfunctional.

Many people focus on the psychological reasons for this such as parents with low-self esteem, a history of abuse, a genetic predisposition to addictions or mental health issues, or the fact that society doesn’t encourage parents to take parenting courses so most people are left to explore it through trial and error. But from a spiritual perspective, we can see a soul purpose for dysfunctional families. Continue reading

Enjoy Your Life to the Fullest

You have the power to enjoy your life to the fullest.

Do you enjoy most aspects of your life? Reflect on your typical day: your morning, afternoon, evening, time spent at work, home, while exercising, socializing and so on. What parts of your day do you enjoy the most? Which ones do you enjoy the least? What stops you from enjoying more of it?

Many people have beliefs that limit their enjoyment, such as “I can’t enjoy my time at work – I’m working!” or “Household chores are hard work, there no fun.” Yet there’s no rule saying you can’t take some pleasure in your work, or while doing chores, or while visiting relatives (well, okay maybe that’s going a bit far).

Too often we let the external circumstances dictate how we feel. Continue reading
